Here Am I

A lifelong answer to the call.

Here Am I is built for a whole life, not one sitting. It follows the same sentence through five seasons: childhood, youth and young adulthood, young marriage, the long parenting years, and the quieter harvest of later life. You can read it straight through. You can open it to the season you are standing in today and begin there.

The heartbeat is hineni — הִנֵּנִי. People translate it as “I’m here,” as if it were a pin on a map. That is too small. Hineni is not showing up. It is not availability as a mood. It is a whole heart, willing — the end of half-listening, a person stepping into the open and placing their life on the table without first demanding to read the assignment. Not swagger. Consent of the soul. Isaiah heard it. Abraham answered before the mountain had a name. Moses answered, then listed every reason he was the wrong man. Samuel was a boy in the night. The assignment changes. The posture does not: whole heart, still willing.

Forty-six chapters. A forty-day practice. Scripture written into the sentences, not stacked at the bottom of the page. It is for the child learning a whisper, the youth who is not sure the whisper is still there, the couple learning a yoke, parents in the noise of ordinary Tuesdays, and Saints whose houses have grown quiet. It is also for the Saint whose life did not make the usual photograph. Marriage and children are holy plots in these pages. They are not the only plot that counts as a plot.

This book will not make you finished. It will keep handing you the same question the Lord has been asking since before you had a name: Whom shall I send? And it will keep making room for the same answer, in the voice of whatever age you are today — not a location. A yes.

The call does not wait for a better version of you. It is waiting for the one who is already in the room.
